Examples of Trend Summaries

You can see examples of Trend Summaries from last semester on www.ehrlichorg.com/01s-trnd/students.htm. These assignments also include Trend Scans, which you are not doing. 

Project Guidelines and Examples

For your course project, the challenge is to find a process that is 'just right' in terms of scope, complexity, and interest. The ideal process:

Involves multiple organizations or multiple independent parts of the same organization.
Is something that happens repeatedly in a consistent manner.
Involves a 'reasonable' amount of data and complexity.

Here are some examples:

Processing a routine credit card transaction is too simple. A transaction where there is suspected fraud is more interesting, there are decisions to be made and multiple parties involved.
Selling a piece of equipment together with installation and a service contract.
Quarterly financial reporting and roll-up for a company with multiple divisions and subsidiaries.
An airline makes car or hotel reservations that are linked to a customer's airline reservation. 
Consumer loan or auto loan process: originating the loan, qualifying the customer (credit check), rating and pricing the loan, etc.
